My lovely fiance really wanted to get me away from the city for my birthday. There obviously were quite a few options and I knew that whatever I chose, as long as I was with him…I would be happy. But for some reason, the thought of us together in mother nature sounded like the perfect idea. I opted on Big Sur…a place I had heard was more magical than magic itself. The problem was that Big Sur is really…just that..big! The only places to stay are literally a campground or an Inn with no shower!! Well…needless to say…we decided we wanted to give each plenty of cuddles and not smell all weekend and decided to stay in Carmel. Which was just as beautiful and only 10 minutes from Big Sur. And on top of that we also visited the location where we want to have the wedding! So we killed two birds with one stone…or something like that. I fell horrible for just saying that..because the birds were literally singing to us on our hike. But I think you know what I mean.  In the end, we fell more in love and I fell in love with nature all over again. I had so much time to think about so many things and to just clear my head…and the number one thing I realized is…I am truly the most luckiest girl. The End.

I was definitely excited to get my copy of Walton Ford’s prints distributed by the one and only TASCHEN. At first, TASCHEN released only 1,600 of these book and they retailed in the thousands of dollars!! Now they have decided to print the book for consumers like me at a very reasonable price. I wanted to share with you and how amazing this book is! To have all his works in one gorgeous book blows my mind. Talk about INSPIRATION for your eyeballs! Walton Ford (born 1960) is an American artist who paints large scale watercolors in the style of Audubon’s naturalist illustrations. Each painting is a meticulous study in flora and is filled with symbols, clues and jokes referencing a multitude of texts from colonial literature and folktales. Like the paintings from the old, his style is majestic and takes the viewer on a sort of  journey into the African safari. One my favorite things to derive my art on is nature and wild animals. And Walton Ford is a great artist to be inspired from. You will never get tired of looking at his prints…it is like candy to the eye. Enjoy!

After all that has been happening around the world..especially in Haiti..it is impossible not to feel pain and even some sort of discomfort. When I say discomfort, I mean…for example…when I complain about something. I immediately retrace my steps and my thoughts and think about how blessed I am and how there are so many people who are suffering…dying…around the world. It is soooo easy to forget. My pledge at the moment, is to knock off all the silly complaining I do on the daily and try my best to GIVE BACK. It’s actually not that hard to do. And if you don’t have the money…maybe volunteering for your favorite cause its something that might work as well. On that note please check out the post below: If you have $20 you can order a wonderful I GLOVE HAITI T-shirt in support of Numa Perrier and her efforts in buying supplies for her trip to Haiti. She will need your help and it will be greatly appreciated by the people there…I’m sure of it.

Once upon a time..a very long time ago…I use to make A LOT of jewelry. I was cleaning my jewelry bin up and realized that at the bottom of my bin were these beautiful necklaces stored in plastic that I had once made. I don’t quite remember why I stopped making jewelry…but it was a great hobby to have. I still have bins and bins of beautiful stones and gold chain. Its so crazy to think about all the creative things I have done and still love to do. I always find little traces of  my creative work all around…and it always makes me smile. So I think I might sell all my old jewelry on my new esty coming soon! Maybe they will get some use on someone’s beautiful neck rather than in my jewelry bin…

One of my favorite gifts this holiday, was a small camera called the Mini Diana. It is a tiny little plastic camera that takes really eerie and interesting pictures in either square, or half rectangle frames. You can overlap images and even do half rectangles frames side by side. I was completely mesmerized. I had Patrick take me around his home town so I could take pictures of all the pretty trees and homes sprinkled with snow. I had not been in snow since I was a teenager! So I was happy to catch some great images with this little guy. I went to the river, to a beautiful wildlife park, and the lovely skating rink. Sometimes when I would see something so intriguing, I would wonder where are all the beautiful things like that are in Los Angeles. I guess our beautiful things just come in different packages. And so….I’m on a mission with my Mini Diana to capture them!

My lovely boyfriend…who is now my fiance…(whooohooo!)…wanted to take me to Palm Springs to relax after we were in 30 degree weather in Ohio visiting his family. We stayed at the Riviera Resort and Spa…and it was the most beautiful treat a girl can have. Coming from the snow to laying out in the sun makes me love California more than ever. Although, as I type this..I am sitting at my computer with a severe cold. But I am happy I had an amazing end of the year and spent it with the most wonderful people ever and of course….my one and only. We got engaged over the New Year and so I am ever so happy and full of a renewed sense of life and purpose. I am so excited for all the new ventures that will happen this year and the next. It even gives me butterflies to think about all the fantastic things that are going to take place. I realized that everyone loves a new beginning…a fresh start and that is exactly what this feels like at the moment. We grow from our past experiences and become better people in the end. The point of it all, I believe, is to become better. To take every single great opportunity and run with it. So on that note, I hope you had a great and memorable New Year’s as well!

ooooh…what a winter wonderland…..

winter

One of my greatest pleasures at work is to do dream up a window display that is different and fun. I knew I needed to stick to the rule of winter..although I know it is quite hard to imagine right now in Los Angeles. But I wanted to create a winter window display that was not the ordinary fake snow and christmas tree idea. Working with practically no budget at all is always something that challenges me as well. So I had to remember something I had done back in my Design 2 college course. We used recyclable everyday materials to create a piece of art…with spending little money and thinking really big (something I always TRY to live by). I remember I used styrofoam paper cups to create these almost life size porcupine creatures just grazing in the grass on the student lawn. I can still remember looking at the other students faces with awe as they passed by this huge styrofoam porcupine. I really enjoyed that project and that class! I wanted to bring that concept back…so I made a pit stop at the 99cent store and grabbed as many paper plates and coffee filters as I could. I folded in half both the  paper plates and the coffee filters in a bunch and stapled them together  creating a multiple fan like object. After a little staple here and there…I had about 40 of each. I spread them out around the floor and created a snow like design as the bottom of the window display. They were so fluffy and gorgeous…it almost took my breath away! With a few accents here and there…I think I came up with the perfect winter wonderland window display. Enjoy!!

Foley + Corinna Striped Lurex Sweater

I decided that I would just use myself for the next Foley + Corinna mailer. It’s sortof a weird thing since I run the store to apppear in the mailers and then everyone thinks I completely obsessed with my job. Well, that’s not completely true. I am a tad bit obsessed with the line but if I could just be designing mailers and shooting all day I would be one happy camper..I wish it could be one or the other. But since I am a woman of many talents, I like to do whatever I can to stay inspired. I have been doing more graphic work for the mailers than the actual photoshoots but I felt the urge to shoot again. I wanted to keep it simple this time…and yes..honestly it was last minute. I just sort of went into it like I was shooting for my blog…nothing too crazy and nothing too serious (even though I have a much tougher corporate crowd to please). The store is on sale..so I picked some of my favorite sale items and shot them in my home. Obviously I would have picked another model for the mailer besides myself…like a pretty friend of mine and a much better location. But I have been crazy busy with other projects and my friends are as well. However, I PROMISE to do more location shoots like this one and step away from the “graphics only” for a bit when designing these mailers. I always have so much fun shooting friends for these things. Either way…we’ll see what happens! I guess I can say there is more to come!! Here is the final mailer:

This year my boyfriend and I decided to host a housewarming holiday party. We wanted to welcome all our loved ones to our new place and to celebrate one more sweet memory for the year. What a perfect time to get together and celebrate than during the holidays.  So basically we were sortof  double whamming it with two parties in one…both of us running around to get the place together while focusing on a holiday theme. In the end the party was a success! And the best apart about it was that everyone was all together under one roof. It was definitely a night to remember for sure.

XXI Navy Peacoat, American Apparel black leggings, Vintage gold belt, and Dolce Vita Ankle Boots

Okay..I have to admit that I have been rocking this outfit really hard the past couple of days. It’s been pretty chilly here in LA and for some reason this seems to be the most appropriate outfit to snuggle my body in. I often hit up the Forever 21 by my house looking for that treasure find. Well, the last time I went in, that treasure came in the size of a peacoat in the color of navy at a price of $45. It is made of wool, so those of you who can’t bare to deal with that itch are in no luck. However, it is nicely lined and is actually okay for me. I also love my new ankle boots from Dolce Vita…all black and shiny. This shoe is part of their new collection…which I have to say is FANTASTIC! I want every single shoe they have lined up for the fall! And of course add your favorite vintage pieces and you have a pretty, pretty, peacoat  adorned with the most prettiest shine.

el perro del mar…love is not pop.

Ahhhhhhhh! I am starting to feel like the luckiest girl in the world. I went to see El Perro Del Mar at the Hotel Cafe on a beautiful Monday night. I was not only excited to see her because she rarely passes thru the US but because I have enjoyed her music for quite some time now. Her new album Love Is Not Pop is definitely A+ from beginning to end and is my new favorite thing to listen to. She is also great friends with my other favorite artist Lykke Li and low and behold….Lykke came up on stage with her and did a duet with her of Change of Heart! I literally amost fainted. Wow!!!!! Okay….sooooo….go get the album!! A glass of wine or whatever choice of fun for the night, play her on your Itunes and you have a recipe for a night to remember! Cheers!
